So I was doing my usual surf through the interweb through all my favorite sites, when I run across a little video entitled “Spore Gameplay Video”. I vaguely remembered hearing about a little game dominating the show at E3 by Will Wright, the creator of the popular Sims games. Anyway it was a boring afternoon so I figured I had time to watch the half hour video. By the end of it I was simply in awe. I had seen a game that could very well become one of the best and most successful yet.
The premise is completely original. The player creates a creature and evolves it from its starts as a microbial organism, to when your creature grows legs and crawls out of the water, to when it becomes intelligent and you lose control of the single creature, instead controlling an entire tribe of your little creatures, to hopping into a ufo and exploring a galaxy full of other players creatures. But instead of encounters with other peoples creatures affecting there experience there creatures will be AI controlled. So you could blow up your buddies civilization of warrior dolphins but the next time he loads the game up everything would still be normal for him. The game is not an MMORPG in will be single-player with other peoples content instead of stuff pre-made by the devs.
The other important thing about spore is Procedural Generation. Procedural Generation figures out how things should work based on what the player does. Basically that means if you make a bouncing creature with a leg stuck to its head, the game will figure out how it moves, fights, and even dances. For more on procedural generation go here.

The common opinion is that the game will either be released for the Christmas holidays or around April of 2007. Everyone in the Spore community is anticipating E3, when undoubtedly there will be more information released.
Here is the video (you have to turn up the volume a bit to hear Will Wright talking about it.
